i've seen this only a couple of times here and it had been when we had a very unusually cold late summer, right before migration.
while i've been feeding hummers for almost 11 years now, i have yet to find a nest. i would LOVE to!!! if you google "active hummingbird nest", you can find a few awesome videos of momma feeding babies.
