I am a newbe to this site, I have been reading some good info here, I have had flica for about 3 months, she is 3 ( I have her papers ) she came from a man who bought her as a yearling and had her in with a jenny & jack mini donkey & there baby. No good people contact. The man tried to brake her by riding her. 200+lb man but she ran him into the fence 2 times so he didnt try again. GOOD FOR HER

I say. I was so sad when I seen her for the 1st time, there he was with a electric cord around her neck & her halter was all but inbedded in her. The 4 of them were on about 1 acre - they were never fed any thing but grass - when I picked her up there was no grass, all brown for the winter. But she was FAT 1st though was worms. She has been wormed 2 times since I have had her. Had her 1st farrier trim, & with his help we got the halter off.

So we can see movement in her belly - I have been taking pic's to see her changes. Now it took me 2 weeks to be able to even touch her, she now comes to us for a scratch, she is iffy about some things. Like she will not let me keep my had on her belly, I can rub but the feel for long. She has not went into heat since I have had her.

Over the last month, she has had some mood changes - wanting her space & will nip at ( not bite ) my other 2 but just off and on, scratching on everything - even broke some fence boards because she rubs that but so hard. She bites & dog itches her belly. Looks at her belly like she sees somehting. Napping more durning the day.

Over the last few days she has been shedding bad, by the handfuls. I hope my pic's will give you some insight & I can get some info help.

How far along do you think she is?

I hope I did this right,,, I had to start a photo bucket ( right now ) and I have been waiting to post since yesterday - Had to be approved Now I will work on my info in the profile.

Have a good one

Welcome Mylilgirls! Glad you found this forum! So happy that you took this poor girl in!! I am not much help as I am also asking the forum to look at my rescue's pics and try to determine when she is due also!

I was surprised at the lack of your mares udder! I would think she would have SOMETHING if she were pregnant! But maybe because she is a maiden (and young) mare, hopefully you'll get some input from those with experience!!

Good luck and please keep us posted!!

I'm not sure if she's pregnant at all. In the winter my mares all look like they've got bellies(even my 3 yo "virgin"). Personally I'd have a vet check her and see if she is in foal. You said all you can see is hair when you tried to take pics of her teats. Have you felt with your hand to see if she has any sign of a bag? Sorry couldn't be more help.

Yea I know she does not have much now, 2 weeks ago she had nothing all I could see was hair. If I remeber right your rescue came from new holland was that in Pa? We just moved from that area to Tn.

I have found when they are in with a stud full time they mate when the weather brakes, well in Tn thats in march. Her winter coat should not be coming out yet??? so that has me thinking it will be soon, since one lady told me her vet said her horse had another month, yet her colt was born 3 days later & her only change was she started to loose her winter coat and it was still winter.

Well see

2 weeks ago all I could see was hair, and yesterday I took that pic were you can now see nips, I did reach under her & felt a little bit- I will try to get a better feel today. Like I said she is iffy about being touched so I did not want to push it but work up to it. I will update after her noon feeding.
