Ok I have a question about teasing the mare after breeding. When do you start teasing to see if she is bred? three weeks from the start of standing heat or three weeks from the finish?

Bonny bred friday May 2nd once daily ( at least) every day and the last day covered was Wed. May 7.

What date would you tease her with the stud?

I tease my mares beginning 14 days from the date that they are out. So If I your mare was last bred on May 7, assuming that she was out on the 8th, then you should start to tease her on May 22. Continue to tease for the next 5 days at least. If she does not come into heat, then you should have her ultrasounded to see if she is in foal. Just because the mare doesn't come back into heat DOES NOT mean that she is in foal. She could have a CL (corpus luteum) hanging around that will keep her from coming into heat.

We're 'constantly' teasing our open mares, they get turned out in a lot that shares a side with our boys. Even if we do not have plans of breeding the mares, we still watch for heat and record when we see her go in and when she goes out that way we can keep track, so we know just about when her next should be and will also help us keep an eye out for abnormal cycles..

When I have a mare who is coming in season I tease her daily, I tease her with the stud before covering etc, and I'll tease her on days that I will not be covering (breed every other day) so I'll know when she goes out.. After she goes out, then she either goes out to pasture with the other gals or if we haven't moved them to the pastures then they go back in the lot next to the boys.. and 21-23 days since her last breeding date she should come back into heat if she didn't settle..

Since your gals LBD was May 7th, so I'd look to start teasing her again around the 28th when she should start cycling again if she didn't settle..

Wow, thats a big difference in dates to start checking.

I would think it wouldnt hurt to start teasing on the 22nd but the stud is not here.

I can use the gelding next door. Thats how we figured out she was in standing heat this time.

He was grazing and I took her out to graze and she showed to him through the fence.

Could I just tease her every other day? Or would every day be better?

Just to add, if you are hand breeding her she doesnt need to be bred more then once every other day.
