My feed store doesn't have wheat straw, they said they usually only carry Rye Straw, can Rye Straw be used for foaling, I can go to another store thats farther away and see if they have it but if I can't find wheat, is Rye straw OK?

Rye straw should be ok.......provided it was baled dry and isn't moldy smelling or too dusty and is clean/bright. Those are the things you need to watch for in your bedding. Oat straw is also good or even just a nice grass hay could be used to bed a stall.

Just make sure your mares don't enjoy eating the straw when bored.... they don't need to eat that straw.

Happy foaling and post your new arrival when he/she arrives!

Russ,

Thank you. I will definately post pics of the new arrival when he/she gets here. These people know how to make hay and such, so I don't think there will be a problem there.
