What kind of snake is this?

The snake was in our yard, do you know what kind it is? It is about 2 foot long.

looks like a brown rat snake. Very useful snake to have around. They eat mices, rats and other snakes ( including venomous ones)

Cute! I too would guess a great little rat snake...harmless!

Whatever he is he's awfully pretty! Now seems to be the time where everyone is finding snakes on their properties. They must be coming out getting ready to hibernate for the winter.
