What is the difference?

I have been wondering about this, on pinto patterns. Why some have the smooth edges and others are very jagged. Does each one mean a different

type of color pattern/gene is at work?

Yes, that is correct. I have found that the tobiano and splash patterns seem to have smoother edges, whereas frame and sabino seem to have more jagged looking edges.
