I decided to milk my mare a little bit tonight for the first time. I'm sure I could have done this several weeks ago but decided to give it a first go tonight. The milk was much like water with a hint of white to it. I think I remember hearing it gets more yellowish and sticky as the mare nears foaling. Is this right? What else should I be watching for as far as her milk goes?

You got it. No more watery stuff. It'll turn yellowish and get more sticky. And it may get milky and stay sticky, but not always. What's important is it will get thicker and sticky like syrup or honey. All you need is a couple drops on your fingertips to tap together. It will be real tacky between your fingers.

The milk was definitely NOT sticky so I bet I have a ways to go yet
