Welts from Flies

I noticed that Dusty my gelding has several welts on his neck that do not look comfortable. This is what we get for not fly spraying him for a few days. Do you have any ideas on how to make them more comfortable and make them heal? (they are just under the fur, no cuts or anything)

I'm no expert, but I would think Absorbine or Listerine rub would help the itch/burn, then maybe massage in some hydrocortizone cream to relieve the pain/itch..I know the Hydrocortizone works as I use it on my gelding.

One time the year before last, one of my mares out of all the other horses was covered in welts, I believe from deer flies. The other horses had a couple, but she was covered. I gave her some benedryl (sp?) and the welts went down. I've owned her since 2000, but only once have I seen her have a problem like she had that day.
