Well today the pediatrician called to say that Boston Children's needed a referral. So they tried to get one. The only problem is that BCH isn't in my network. All this after she had the consultations and her biopsy. NOw I have to find the money yo pay for that. I gave them all my insurance info before we even went down for the consultation. They never said that they didn't take my insurance. NOT ONCE!!!!! I'm so mad right now I could spit. My pediatrician said if I want the surgery paid for than I have to go to Conneticut CHildren's Hospital. I'm just afraid that if we switch now she won't be able to have the surgery in 3 weeks and that they won't be able to fit her in until after she goes's back to school. What do I do? Her surgery is already schedules at BCH for July 11th.

A few years ago I had a procedure done and was told it was covered by my insurance.

I was barely out of the hospital when I got hit with the bills. Somebody in some office goofed and I had to pay up. They really should be more responsible about these things.

Try to calm down and have your Ped call Connecticut and see if it can be set up so you will know your option. Let his office handle this for you. It should be part of the job of their office staff. Your job is to be calm so you can be strong and steady for Cassidy. It will work out.

Thanks Marty. I will be doing that. as well as talking with the rep from Tracy's insurance company this am. I just don't understand why this is happening. I never had any problems with Health New England as far as paying for things and our co- pays were 1/2 what they are now.

I don't even trust asking the facility that I am going to anymore. if they accept my type of insurance...

I always call the insurance company myself directly and tell them that I am interested in going to so and so and are they in the plan....then before I hang up I get the name of the insurance rep...and write the date down that I spoke to them etc.

What a mess for you!

Well I have to cancel her surgery and her pediatrician will be making a new appointment with one of 4 hospital's in our network. They are also trying to get the hospital to eat the biopsy and consultation payments as the hospital knows what insurances they take and what they don't. They shoulsd have told me up front that they didn't take it. But as much stink as I put up I'll probably have to pay it all.

I used to work for a surgery center and for 24 surgeons also. Boy did I get a course in insurance etiquette (there is none) YOU have to handle Everything your self. ANY specialist...CALL the insurance company & ask who you are talking too-date-time and ask if they are in network. Same with any hospital or one day surgery center. Anytime YOU have a test done check and call the insurance again. If you are out of network YOU get stuck but you can call the place and negotiate the bill also. Set up a payment plan and I do not know how it is in your state but where I worked at as long as you made even 10.00 a month they took it and even did a sliding scale based on income. YOU have to be your own advocate for you & your family! GOOD LUCK
