The vet came out to geld Chinook yesterday and have a look at Shadow and I'm afraid to see the bill I'm gonna get.

He started out with gelding Chinook whom I also call my Gingerbread man 'cause he's so spicy

. My son, who has an excellent sense of humour, quoted a line from Shrek and cried out "NO, NOT THE GUMDROP BUTTONS!" "sigh"

The vet was great, he really liked Chinook and I could have cried afterward when he did his teeth for me (my pony boy had started having some trouble eating) and said he had never seen perfect teeth on a mini before. AHH perfect teeth, great conformation, what have I done!!!.... I pictured flying heels and those perfect teeth coming over fences at childrens faces and hands and felt much better about my decision. Chinook had two caps that weren't wanting to let go so now I have two souviniers. My daughter made a joke about making a necklace out of them. You know they are quite pretty in a wierd sort of way, hmm.....

Then we did Shadow who is a minimal dwarf. His teeth are NOT perfect. The vet did what he could to get him through until spring but he said Shadow really needs an equine dentist.

I had expected to need to have to have them floated every year but I didn't expect to need a dentist! He gave me the name of a good one so I guess we'll be putting in a call in the spring. Shadow had also been shooting snot out his nose and is now on five days of Penecillian. From the way he reacted when the vet did him I figure this ought to be fun. But, I've had to do much bigger horses than him who were not to enthused about it so we'll be okay.

Glad to hear your "kids" have been taken care of.

Don't be scared of the "equine dentist" title; my equine dentist is actually more economical than the local vet for dental work and does a better job. If your vet recommended the equine dentist, then he/she is probabaly a good one. My equine dentist does work for a clinic near where she lives (she lives 6 hours from here, but does rounds of this area a couple times a year).

Oh Good Goobers you've had quite a big day with the wee ones.

Not to worry, it's going to be uphill from now on.........right?

Thank you, that's good to know about the dentists. In my head I was thinking "specialist" and the dollar signs were freaking me out, especially since my son has fallen in love with the little guy and I promised him we'd keep him even if we had to have his teeth done every year and what ever vet bills he might incur.

Oh Marty, I hope it's all uphill from here!

I hope things go ok with giving your boy injections. Not my idea of fun either! Hope it clears him right up though to make it worth it.
