My best friend's son has been diagnosed by a specialist with Ulcerative Collitis. He is on meds but between

that and angry intestines (puss and some blood, sorry if too graphic) he is losing weight and just can't find anything that works to settle things down any little bit. He is getting run down. His doctor can't seem to do much for him so they are going to see another specialist. Have you heard of anything that has worked for anyone? He is about 24.

I realize you may only play a Dr. on TV and this will be personal experience and opinions and is not to be substituted for medical treatment. So, let the brainstorming begin !

Thanks so much.

I don't know of any medications to help him but I will keep him in my prayers.

One of my friends had that. Doc's ended up taking out all but 5' of her intestines. Was a night mare.

Another friend's great Aunt got that, so she had her take "Slippery Elm bark". After a bit the Collitis went away.

I do not know if it would help him but it might be worth a try.

I don't know anything about this but seeing another doctor is a great idea. I think she's on the right track doing that.

He might go to a hospital and get fluids. I would not take Ulcerative Collitis on the light shoulder.

I thought maybe you could go to www.healthboards.com and see if you can research the topic (in the search box) and find out what has helped others with this condition. It is a very informative place for different illnesses. Hope this helps some.

My sister was diagnosed with chron's when she was about 18 or 19 after suffering from all kinds of werid stuff from her early teens, she tried the med's and ended up getting the surgery and had her intestine resectioned and has been much better since then but it seems to get worse when she is under stress. She thew all her Medication out and just watches what she eats - she knows what makes her worse and tries to avoid it. Slippery Elm powder is good but I think once she had the resection she stopped taking all her natural things as well as the meds.

Uuugh! That's awful. I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance (Celiac) about a year ago after a lot of suffering and no answers for many many months prior to that, so I know a bit about what he's going through (although celiac isn't as bad as ulcerative colitis). For me, it's fairly easy; I cut out anything that has wheat in it; a kind of forced Atkins

: (you'd be surprised how much of our processed foods have some form of wheat/gluten or derivative in them). I know that ulcerative colitis is not the same type of disease at all, but I'm wondering if certain foods can be added/eliminated to help. Hmmmm.

Good luck to him!

I have been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis for 2 years now, but have been suffering with it for 5 years but did not know I even had it until I started bleeding.

I was doing really good up until a month ago, and know I have it back but with full force. I am on 12pills a day of Asacol and 2 prednisone. I can't seem to stop bleeding. Ulcerative colitis is horrible.

Some people are worse then others, they don't know the cause of it (weak immune system they think) I really think stress has a lot to do with it, but they say not. I have been through a lot in July lost my dog by a sudden accident ( I found him) and a week later I lost an old friend of mine from a car accident. So after all that is when it came back.

I have it through my whole large intestine.

I am really scared for I don't want to lose my bowel I am only 30years old.

I am trying hard to research it to see if there is anything I can take to help heal it.

My Dr's have said watch what you eat but its not the food that caused it.

If anyone has any information that would be great and Baptism if you want to PM me I would love to chat.

It is not fun and you do lose weight and sometimes don't feel like eating. Make sure he takes his pills!!! Do NOT through them out some people have it more severe then others. Maybe the ones that are not severe can get away with eating right but I can't and by the sounds of your friend’s son he sounds pretty bad.

I also take Vitamin D, Calcium and a Multi Vitamin.

What is "Slippery Elm bark" where do I get this and can you take it with pills??

Good Luck and my thoughts are with him.

Thanks all, for the opinions and information. I will forward this to my friend so she and her son can learn more. I've been out of state for four days so it was nice to come back and see some ideas.
