Two Mares in heat at same tim for a long period of time.

I have 2 mares that are both in heat at the same time, and I've bred them every other day last week and they are still in heat and excepting the stud. Is this normal?

Is this their first heat cycle? Then absolutely. If not, probably still yes for them.

I know a little only because a friend and neighbor had a small herd of registered minnies and stallion. When it was time , the stallion was introduced to a mare once or twice during the heat cycle. Then everyone was separated until the next cycling period.

Breeding is one of those areas that seem especially complex to me with so many variables!

I haven’t been on the pregnancy and foaling thread, but perhaps your question posted there would be seen by those who do breed?

At this point if they are still standing for him I would probably give them a week off then see what happens. The first heat of the year is not supposed to be likely to take anyway.
