Treating a suspected placentitis

In talking with a new vet today, she mentioned pentoxifylline in addition to SMZs and Regumate to treat a mare that is showing signs similar to last year before she aborted, likely due to placentitis. This is the only article I could find that discussed its use to possibly improve blood flow between the uterus and the placenta.
