Teething Question

I have miniature weanling that I rescued from the kill lot one month ago. All I was told was that he was old enough to leave his mom who was rescued by someone else.

Do miniature horses cut teeth on the same schedule as big horses? My vet was out today to give him his vaccines/coggins and based on his front teeth, she thought he was only about 4 months old.

He has 4 front teeth on top and bottom. Vet said regular horses get their next set of incisors at 6-9 months. Is this true for miniatures as well? She was not sure.

Many mini foals are weaned at 4 months, but yes, in answer to your question, they cut teeth the same as large horses.

In general, minis cut teeth same time frame as full size, but like all things, horses are individuals and it can vary a little bit.

I have a colt the equine dentist looked over last year, who I know the age to the day and practically the hour, and he's late to shed caps so she estimated him a year younger than he actually is. His half brother is right on schedule.
