I was told by my vet last summer when my filly was thought to have ulcers to ad alfalfa to her diet. She told me it acts as a coating to their stomach and would help prevent ulcers in the future. So all my horses get alfalfa pellets every day in their feed.So far so good.

I had read previously that alfalfa was helpful due to the higher calcium content, so I've been feeding a scoop of alfalfa leaves to my mini filly taht stresses easily and since I started doing that she hasn't had any ulcer episodes (before that she had them regularly).

We only ever have fed free choice mostly alfalfa rounds...colic has been rare for us and we have only ever had 2 cases of ulcers but those were man made by me not knowing better about certain chemicals and horses..
