We just gave the show horses their second strangles vaccination and about 1-2 days later, all the yearlings had a fever between 102.5 and 103.5. Anybody else experience something that? They didn't get a fever with the first dose but its consistent this time and thats all we can come up with. Just curious

I wouldn't worry, Mary-most likely the adjuvant in the vaccine, not an infection. Mine often get a fever the second time around as well. i always get a fever after getting a vaccination, myself. Now i try to get the live when i can so i don't have that problem. Anyway, i can sympathize with the horses.

If this was an IM vaccine, then adjuvant is likely correct.

But, if this was an IN vaccine, then those are non-adjuvanted. They do however contain live bacteria that multiply and as such will cause a level of inflammation.

Either way, fever is normal.
