We usually buy our baled shavings in larger quantities since the price per bale is so much cheaper.

This year we have to find another place to store them and I was wondering if putting them on wooden skids outside with a tarp would be sufficient to keep them dry...

has anyone tried this?? Did it work??

I look forward to any and all suggestions. I really am tired of paying for shavings a bale at a time and the cost....OUCH... :DOH!

Cyndi, guess where my bailed shavings are?

Right outside the back doors of my barn sitting on pallets and covered with a tarp. No problems. Very convenient. I don't need them taking up space in my hay barns.

I do keep the tarp weighted down on each side with concrete blocks for storms.

Look on the right side of this picture. They are under the stairs.

We keep ours in our morton building BUT I wanted to say that the feed store does keep them outside on pallets tarped down so they are outside BEFORE we buy them so I would think that as long as you made sure the tarp was secured down to not get blown off in a storm that you should be fine

Good Luck...
