I can not believe it! This is so amazing and I owe it all you those of you who have helped and encouraged me to try this!

Shadow went in to the vet at about 11. Surgery was at one. Both legs were done by 1:30. They opted not to geld at this time.

I arrived at 4 to check on him, I went back to see him, he looked good, was in a tiny stall hard to see results, but his hind legs were not locked. The vet came in and lifted him out of the stall and told me to load him and take him home. He trotted to the trailer! He hasn't trotted since maybe September! I cried! What a blessing this is to my boy! He will spend a couple days in the trailer on stall rest, it is the one place I can make sure is lice free until I get a chance to spray all my run in's and stalls. The vet really wasn't clear after two days what we can do, but I assume some light walking for a week or so and then off to the races! He is re learning to walk. It will take some time, but I am so happy for Shadow. Now I can look for a new home for him!

Thanks to all!

Keep him confined for a few days with some short hand-grazing and then in a smaller paddock for a couple of weeks with hand-walking as he relearns how to move and starts building that muscle. After that I'd say use your judgment on how to proceed from there. My Kody is 10 weeks out now and still showing some brief ouchiness at the end of our longest workouts so healing does take awhile! He should be sound for regular turnout and daily activities within a couple of weeks though.

Again, congratulations! Please keep us posted on his progress.

Congrate's on the sucess of Shadow. What a relif for you and Shadow. I hope you are able to stay out of these HORRIENDOUS storms Nebraska is having right now? So far it's going to the north and east of us... I worry about the line of storms though that are currently in KS though.... some NASTY stuff with this weather...... already one tornado at Kearney....

I wanted ask you who did the surgery for you? Woundered if it was the equine vet at Grand Island?

WHOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!

That's awesome! I'm so happy to hear that!!!

MyBarakah,

We have been in and out of warnings all night, but were north of the Tornatic storms. We have flooding in our area. Hopefully that will be short lived. We are pushing 7 inches of rain in the last week. I'm ready for some heat.

As for the surgery, I told my local vet about it. He had never heard of it, but I told him I thought it was a simple surgery. He took a look at the horse, and seemed to understand the anatomy of what I was saying. He looked it up, and scheduled for a day when another vet could assist. I am so happy with how it all turned out! Shadow seems much more comfortable. He is about 25 pounds under weight I think. Many days it was too much effort to come to eat. I am praying he will thrive now!

I assume you were talking about Dr. Bronc? I think that is his name. I know he is wonderful. Very pricey but wonderful. At this point though, I wouldn't trade my vet for the world!

Morning! WE SURVIVED the storms!!!!!! Was a SCAREY night! At one time there was a tornado headed right for us!

And more storms coming......so me and the kids went over to my mom's. They have a new house and very SAFE basement! Luckily "some how" the storms/tornados avoided us! But so NERVING!

ANd yes..... and I was reffering to Dr. Bronc. When I showed the quarters I always used him and had the clients take thier horses to him. He's very good at seeing where the lameness is and is right to the point about what the options and treatments are. But yes... like any equine specialist...... quite pricey! loL!

I'm so glad your vet was able to do the surgery for you and everything worked out well!! Such a relief when are babies (my "other" children I reffer them too! loL!

) and sound and happy!

Are you going to come to any of the AMHR shows they are having in Lincoln this year? There's one on June 21st that is REALLY CHEAP!!!!!! I am thinking that should be a pretty good turn out for that one....

I haven't done any showing for a few years. I should, I would like to get back into it, but doubt this will be the year. I'm so glad you made it through the storms safely. We had another doozie last night at about 2:00. We got 1.8 inches of rain just last night. Shadow had to live through all that rocking and rolling in the trailer!

Speaking of him, I better go get some chores done. I plan to take him out for a bit of grass so I can clean the trailer out.

Yeah! Keep us posted. I'm schedualing one for my gelding in another month or so after we get moved. So its good to hear of success stories! Congrats!!!
