Saddle recommendations / bit vs bitless

Hello everyone. We have been working with our two minis and think they are ready to start training with a saddle and bridle. Our goal is to lead them around with our young kids on their back, next let them ride solo, and eventually pull a cart.

Any recommendations for a good, not-to-expensive western saddle?
Also, seen a lot on bit vs bitless - any experiences that anyone would like to share?
