As a follow up on the thread about breeding yearling stallions, I have a basic question.

The rule apparently is you cannot use a colt until January of his 2nd year and that confuzzles me.

Again, I certainly do not intend to breed a yearling colt, but can you all enlighten me?

DunIT was born 2/05 (this past February). Is January 2006 the January of his SECOND year? As in this, 2005, is his first year, or is January 2006 the January of his FIRST year?

I'm thinking 01/06 is January of his second year, because I know "they all turn a year older" in January, even if they were born in December, but I would like to know the answer.

Thanks!

No....it would be January of 2007....the year he "turns" 2.

Thanks, Dona!!!
