The American Humane Society is taking Katrina Relief donations to help the
animals.
The authenticity of charities may be verified at
www.guidestar.org or www.charitynavigator.org. Charities in Pennsylvania
must register with the state Bureau of Charitable Organizations and can be
verified at 783-1720 or (800) 732-0999.
Since 1994, VMAT teams have been deployed to both natural and manmade disasters such as Hurricane Floyd and the September 11th tragedy, to assist in the delivery of medical help to injured animals and to provide public health advice. A significant amount of funding for the Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams comes from the AVMF. Individuals wishing to support VMAT in their disaster relief efforts may make an online donation on AVMF's secure Web site, www.avmf.org or send a contribution to:

LSU School of Veterinary Medicine
Shelter for evacuees with pets, is at the LSU John M. Parker coliseum. The LSU SVM is coordinating efforts. All manner of supplies are needed. Veterinary medical supplies may be channeled for receipt to Dr. Drone. Other donations are being channeled through the LVMA (see below).

The LA SPCA will coordinate all animal rescue from affected areas to the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, LA. This will be the primary staging area. Donations of food, kennels, etc are needed. Please donate through the LVMA (see below).

Kentucky, USA | As Americans view the newscasts of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina it is clear that both humans and animals require immediate emergency relief from not only official agencies but from the generosity of individuals.
If you have a facility or pasture which you can offer to house refugee horses and ponies, victims of Hurricane Katrina, please email your name, address, phone number and email address to [email protected] , or at 859-225-6993, (please email if at all possible as we expect a heavy load of calls.) If you can volunteer veterinary services please submit your contact information. The USEF is posting a listing by state of these safe havens for horses and ponies on our Web site. The list will be accessed by going to www.usef.org, on the right side of the homepage click Hurricane Katrina Equine Relief. It is expected to be operational by tonight, August 31st and will serve as a master list to help horse owners in Katrina's path find help. Other equine organizations wishing to assist the effort and link to the list should also e-mail [email protected].
We urge the participation of anyone who has the space, veterinary expertise and tenderness of heart to help these equine refugees.
