Below is the latest news from the Northeast Minature Horse Club and I'm so thrilled, I can hardly contain myself!!

First of all another reminder to mark your calendars for our Annual Winter Celebration Dinner/Election Meeting to be held at the beautiful and historic Salem Cross Inn in West Brookfield, MA on Saturday Dec. 8. Kim LaFleur [email protected] is compiling a list of our Year End Awards recipients and on that Saturday evening we will be awarding beautiful and useful 'thank you' presents to our Champions and Reserve Champions in 22 divisions. If you participated in these divisions at both of our 2007 shows, you are eligible. Please contact Kim if you have any questions, and we hope to see you all at the Salem Cross Inn!

Also - if you are interested in running for the positions of Club Secretary or Treasurer, or filling our open Board seat, or have questions about just what this would require, please contact me by email or phone. [email protected] 603-774-7050

And now, a drum roll please --

Your Northeast Miniature Horse Club Executive Board is excited and proud to announce that we have voted to make the following donations on behalf of the membership:

$1000.00 to the Bristol County Agricultural High School FFA Chapter for hosting and running our very successful Summer Invitational AMHA Horse Show on July 15.

Here is what one of our board members had to say about her experiences with FFA youth:

"The students are preparing to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis this October. This is the largest youth convention in the world, with more than 55,000 students in attendance. In fact, this event is the third largest convention in the country, only behind the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. If you ever need your batteries re-charged, try attending this event. It truly is an incredible experience, even for adults. A donation from the club will go a long way toward helping get the kids there at a reasonable cost."

We hope you will agree that this is indeed an investment in our future.

$1000.00 to the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation. Another board member had this to say:

"This would be a major statement if we decide to do this. So many miniature horse clubs exist just to benefit themselves. This year the Foundation is funding more than $1,000,000 in research grants at universities throughout North America. Always a leader in laminitis research, they have 3 studies going on right now that are looking at ways to cure (yes CURE) laminitis. They always have studies that are related to breeding and generic horse health. Many people make the mistake of thinking that they fund "Thoroughbred research" only. This is a great misconception. They funded the research that produced a test for EIA (those Coggins tests we pull annually), flu vaccines, and Barbaro -- not only did he benefit greatly from the laminitis studies they have funded, he also was able to safely be sedated immediately after the Preakness (this was a major breakthrough to find a way to safely sedate a highly agitated horse -- one who thinks he's still running) and when he came out of surgery all those times. Remember Ruffian? When she came out of surgery, her heart and adrenaline told her she was still running and she immediately tried to continue the race....and as we know, she did not survive."

There is so much more, please visit www.grayson-jockeyclub.org to see what a worthwhile cause this is.

$300.00 To Chances Miniature Horse Rescue - As you all know Chances is specifically run to benefit Miniature Horses and other miniature equines, and that we are affiliated with them as a member club. This donation brings our total contributions to Chances for the year to $1000.00. You only need to click on the Chances logo on our web site to see the wonderful nationwide work that they do. A totally dedicated network of tireless volunteers.

$200 to sponsor a Youth Championship class at the AMHA World Show. This will be our 2nd year to do this. We will be bringing our arena sign back with us, so the cost is even less than last year. You have all seen the big oval sign at all of our shows and events this year. It declares our mission statement in black and silver. Look for it in the World Show arena again this year. There will be live web casting, so you can also watch for your fellow club members not only to show their horses, but to present our trophy to the winner of the Youth 7 and under Exhibiting a Senior Gelding class held on Saturday evening, Sept. 29. If you are going to be in Ft. Worth and would like to take part in the presentation in center ring, please join us. It is great fun to be 'backstage'. And if you cannot make it to Texas this year, we will wave at the camera!

The Board sincerely hopes that you are proud of what your club has accomplished this year. When you consider that we are not even 3 years old, and that we began with 10 members (only if you count spouses!) and now number more than 45 memberships (each of which may contain household partners and children) -- there is much to celebrate. And we especially celebrate the fact that we have created an organization that is able to give back to the equine community in such a meaningful manner.

Thank you all! Hope to see you on December 8 - watch for details.

CMHR thanks you all for the wonderful donations to the rescue. Without the caring people in your club and the members of this forum, CMHR wouldn't be able to provide the help and care for these miniatures.

We all wish there wasn't a need for Chances, but unfortunately that isn't the case as we see over and over again.

The Northeast Club members are PROUD to support your efforts!
