So, I got a 3rd mini!!

No name yet. Vet is coming tomorrow to check her eyes & potentially give me a referral to a specialist. One eye may need to be removed & the other looks scratched or something off in there.

She's super sweet, quiet, calm & nothing has bothered her yet. I'm hoping her eye issues aren't somehow contagious, as I need to let my others out of graze in their muzzles. I do wonder if her mellow personality is because of pain subduing any antics or if she really is super chill.

She's got impressive fat pads! Supposed to be 4yrs old & had lived out roaming tons of land until recently caught, sold & then resold to me.

Everyone being nosy! Pinto stayed until dark, just watching her. Hoping they become buddies, as the pinto is the low man on the totem pole.

Aw, she's cute. Hopefully the better of the two eyes is an easy fix. Wish you lived near me, one of the best equine opthomologists in the country practices near me and did surgery on my mare. Can you keep us posted? I'm always interested in optho stuff.

Looks like she has Lp in addition to tobiano pinto pattern. Lp is Leopard complex, the genetics responsible for appy patterns; I'm not well versed in appy genetics, but it can cause moon blindness. Equine Recurrent Uveitis

I'll bet money that the right eye has this & should probably be removed. The other eye has something starting in that may be the same thing, just nowhere near as advanced. It wasn't teary last week when I met her. Ugh, poor thing...

There's vet Nunnery here that's most recommended, but I have to get a recommendation first.

Right eye non-visual, eye itself is shrunk, microphthalmia, but can still move somewhat. Will be putting neosporin on it. If it keeps getting weird, then I'll schedule to have it removed.
Left eye has swelling, maybe injury or allergy, depending on what the drops do, may tell us which it is. Have the tiniest bottle of eye drops to put in there 3x a day for a week. She was okay-ish for the vet to get the drops in, but I know it'll only get more difficult with time. Vet will be back if no improvement in a week. She was squinty and wiggly, so he didn't get a great look at it, did do a stain for it.
I'll try to catch what I'm seeing on video. I know they have corpora nigra, but I don't believe that's what I'm seeing.

Anyway, she was super well behaved. I really don't know where other people find demonic minis from, I'm 3 for 3 on sweet minis. Two are redheads and all 3 are mares! 🤷🏽‍♀️ It really is a mystery!

Sounds like that's a better diagnosis than it could have been. Nice. When I've had to do eye drops my vet told me to not worry if I couldn't get it in an open eye, getting it between the closed lids seems to work as well with less chance of harming the eye. Good luck!

My little 3 yr old has an Appy Patterned spotted butt ... should I be concerned that he might have LP issues in the future?
