I'm going to just go by Seniors, as Jrs still grow (at least one of them even ended up going over...)

I might be missing one, but I'm pretty sure this is the entire list of AMHA National Grand or Reserve Champions under 30"

Bond Little Lucy B

Brewer's Orion Elation

Shadow Oak's Top Banana

Little King's Buck Echo

Charles Legacy Royal

Celebration's Legacy Royal

Celebration's Bay Be Royale

I thikn I may have missed Little King's Buckeroo Deja Vu and FWF Blue On Blue, but for the life of me I can't recall if they won as Jrs or Srs.

Tony will know for sure, though, if I missed one....

Ok so I have to much time on my hands right now. But from the AMHA studbook this is the list of horses that were National Grand Champion, jr or sr from 1980 to the present. Actually this was pretty interesting.

I would like to add two horses to Littlum's list of National Reserve Grand Champions:

My beloved La Vista Remarkable Whitney's Magic - 2000 National Reserve Grand Champion Senior Gelding

Also, SRF Encore - 1999 National Reserve Grand Champion Senior Gelding

Each of these boys won National Champion 30 & Under Senior Gelding, then went on to beat the big guys. I am not sure of Encore's permanent height, but Magic measures in at a whopping 28 3/4.

The little guys can do it, but it sure is tough.

Now this one seems a bit funny to me and no offense intended to anyone. Please don't take it anyway but as curious.

SRF ENCORE A 52619 03/27/1993 G SGR - - 30.750 straight from the online studbook as to the height of this horse at 5 which was in 1998.

His show record since then.

2001 SENIOR GELDINGS 30" AND UNDER RESERVE NATIONAL CHAMPION

2002 SENIOR GELDINGS 30" AND UNDER NATIONAL CHAMPION

2003 SENIOR GELDINGS 30" AND UNDER RESERVE NATIONAL CHAMPION

How does he go permanent 3/4 of an inch taller than he shows.

SRF Encore is under 30 inches. Sometimes it says differently on papers so the registered number is not always correct. I am assuming he matured smaller that they anticipated. My geldings papers read 31 1/2 and he is only 29 3/4 for example.

My father is the owner of SRF Encore..... He is under 30". He has measured exactly at 30" or under at every Nationals he has been shown at, and under different measurers every year. We have never changed the papers because he is a gelding, but now, we are thinking that we should. I understand why his height is questioned.

Here is a picture of Encore and his 2002 AMHA National Win

Kim(Leeside) has already said that Encore was 1999 Reserve National Grand Champion Senior Gelding, which was a big thrill to us as we find it hard for a 30" or under to compete against the big guys. Last year, at the AMHR Nationals, Encore had to show against the big boys as his height class goes to 32" and he ended up with a National Championship in that class.

I would love to see more 30" and under horses showing out there as there are some really nice horses in that size. For Example, La Vista Mardi Gras Ms. Behavin, who is in the 28-30 Sr. Mare class was Eastern Regional Reserve Grand Champion and one of the most stunning horses that I have ever seen.

There certainly are instances where people "guesstimate" their horse's mature height--in truth, I believe there are a LOT of those, actually. Also, if you do not have a PROVEABLY level surface upon which to measure, it is an exercise in futility to attempt to get an anywhere-near-accurate measurement, even IF you do everything else according to the rulebook.( I, personally, know of more horses whose papers give a height of LESS than they are, than those whose height is given as TALLER than they are.)

That said--have you closely watched any"official" measurements in the past, oh, 5-7 years???? And-consider how clever it would be if there was a way to pretty much ensure that almost no one is unhappy(and might have to have entry and other fees refunded!), by making sure that almost no one doesn't get certain procedural "benefits"....??Just writing hypothetically, of COURSE!

Hey didn't mean to upset anyone, I was just wondering why anyone would list him as taller than he really is. Normally you see it the other way around so I was surprised. Usually the horse is actually 36" and listed at 34" that type of thing. By the way he is beautiful regardless of his size. And I think Ms Behavin is the prettiest mare I have ever seen, period, just my opinion but she is wonderful.

I, also, do not find that strange at all. Hemlock Brooks CockRobin was listed as 34" on his AMHA papers....but he never measured that tall at shows. (he was taken permanent long before I bought him) He usually measured in anywhere from 32.5" to 33". There are many errors made on Registration papers.....from height to color to parentage!

Hi Karen,

I am sorry if I sounded snippy in my reply...... I did not mean it at all. I understand why you questioned his height and you are 100% right.... normally it is the other way around. I have seen many horses that are listed as 34" and are in fact over that.

I was not mad or upset, I just thought that I would give the reason why we never changed Encore's height.
