When can I introduce my mare and her new filly back into the herd? She runs with 2 mares, a 2 year old and a yearling.

Also, when do I begin to offer the baby grain? She is already trying to eat her mom's grain. She was born on April 2nd.

My filly was born April 1st.

April was out with the herd with her mom at 10 days old.

April gets fed with mom in the morning in their stall, and back in their stall with her mom at night for their night feeding. The filly has had her own dish of foal feed for the past two weeks.

During the afternoon they all get hay piles.

Our herd is 2 mares, 1 yearling and our stallion who go out together.

Hope this helps.

I've been letting my two mares with foals out together since the babies were about 1wk old. I would think if your mare gets along with the other horses, you could let them out together now.

As to grain, I haven't been giving the babies separate grain, but both eat with their mothers. The colt has been eating grain (complete pellets) from less than a week old and before he had any teeth!
