Looking for a "tooth cutter"

My stallion needs to have one of his back molars cut. The instrument available won't work due to his size. My vet is looking everywhere to find one that will work with the lil' guy but hasn't had any luck so far. I'm not sure what it's called, but anyone know where I might be able to find one?

Might check with llama people - I saw a program on TV where they used a wire saw to cut the canines out of the mouths of male llamas - might work here - just a thought.

If anyone knows, please let me know too! I just had the vet out today and he said my gelding has a really high point on his very back molar. It is so high he can't get any of his floaters in there. He tried cutting off the tip and then going in, but no luck. He said there is too much tissue on the sides to approach it that way. He talked about a cutter that has 2 blades one in each direction with a long handle and a weight at the other end. He said you bump the weight and it cuts the tooth where you need it. Unfortunately everything that he has seen is way to big for a mini. Anyone know of a mini specialist that might have a tool to work?

I asked him about pulling the tooth and he said unfortunately it would be worse to do that then make something that might do the job.

Call Jana Scotia of Scotia Equine Dentistry in New Gloucester. I'm sure she has run into this before and she seems to have everything availible for tools.

They do have miniature sets. But I just had my vet out to do my dwarf, who is 20" tall. He is 6. He gets his teeth floated one to two times a year. My vet had regular files and a mini file. He did have a jaw set for miniature horses. What surprised me most was he had a drill that had a pro dental tool (file) on the end of it, it was a regular horse size one and he used that to get the back as well as the front teeth done. Otherwise by hand it would have taken more than an hour to file his teeth down.

The pro dental file was a good 2.5 feet in length with a regular drill on the end.

Oh and we did drug my boy so he wouldn't fidget around and two of us held him up between us, like human stocks and put his head on a bale of straw.
