I know it has been talked about on here before but I'm not having any luck finding it. I have a horse that has some kind of little bugs on his neck. I am assuming it is probably (maybe) lice. What do they look like and how do you treat them to get rid of them??

Also, can horses get fleas?

Thanks for any helpful ideas.

Ivermectin will get rid of lice. Much more thoroughly than topical treatments will. Haven't ever encountered fleas on horses.

If you worm every two months with Ivermectin that will help to keep them away. Also we lice dust the horses two to three times per year. Just start up by their poll and sprinkle a heavy amount of lice dust powder down their mane and all the way down their back to the tail. Again, we do the lice dusting at least twice per year....but the worming regularly with Ivermectin will also be a huge help.
