Large mini saddle size

I just bought a new mini. He is large. About 38-40 inches and as wide as a tank. He's a brute. Large bond. I was going to get my daughter who is 3 a 12" western saddle. The skirt on this particular saddle is 18.5 long with 5.5 pony bars. I was wondering if the skirt would be too long in the back for him. Im sure my daughter is a 10"seat but i want her to be able to use it longer. A 10 would fit her perfect now.

I measured it where the 18.5 would fit and it would just start going over his hips. I attached a pic of him above.

He looks big enough to me,eapecially with a good blanket.could you possibly borrow a similar saddle to try for fit?

Your pony is a bit bigger than mine and probably the saddle will be fine. If you are concerned about the skirt being too long then you might want to find one like this. This is my 34", 23 yr old ( at the time) gelding with my grandchildren at a show.
