domino is now a week old.his sire is homozygous tobiano and black,and his dam is a chestnut tobiano out of a palomino and bay tobiano...he looked black when born,but now looks grayish...any suggestions?

The greyish tinge is just the typical "blah" foal fuzz. He should shed out nice and black for you.
 
I was thinking that..but I keep wondering if mom could be carrying silver....most of my blacks are BLACK...LOL..hes getting lighter and lighter...i love this lil wild child!!
 
No silver. Our blacks are rarely born black, black. It's a defense mechanism. In the wild they'd need to be able to hide from predators so they get the greyish tinge to them. I find the foal fuzz really sunbleaches more than the normal coat too so that's probably why he's getting lighter. My black colt looks like he's brown right now. Can't wait to clip him in a few weeks.

He sure is cute. Love that tail!
