Has anyone given the Intervet Prestige 5 in one shot to a weaned 5 mos plus old foal? Is this safe? I was told not to use Fort Dodge on foals.

At what age and with what vaccine do you vaccinate your foals?

It has been my experience to give EWT-WN at age 3 months and then Flu-Rhino at 8 months. I suggest you call your vet for their expert opinion.

3 months is too early... 5 months is fine for any vaccine as long as you follow the recommended booster schedule. I personally avoid fort dodge due to the high percentages of reactions to their adjunt formula and outdated vaccines.

I think kaykay here on the forum can give you some insight on this.

We have used Prestige V on our foals for years without a problem. Five months should be fine. One thing we do is make sure that the foal is over the stress of being weaned before giving them their shot(s).......or we give them a few weeks prior to weaning if the foal is older than 4 months.
