I thought unregistered horses couldnt be listed in amha studbook?

I was looking at some pedigrees and found this

I thought only amha horses were listed in the studbook. When i hardshipped my mare, I had the info on her sire and Dam from her r papers but it cam back as unknown, so just curious why some are listed and some are not. Does anyone know?

The AMHA studbook was open until 1987 (I think it was 1987) You could register anything that was the right height.

I don't know what the exact rules as to listing parents- if papers from another studbook were acceptable, people filled in whatever they wanted ect.
