For those of you who would like to offer some direct assistance from Florida, STRIDE is putting together a convoy of trailers leaving from Ocala which will be carrying supplies to a central staging point in Alabama. In addition to your generous donations of cash to CMHR's efforts for the Waveland Minis, if you are in Florida and have some extra halters (probably mostly full size horse), ropes, buckets or other bare essentials lying around, please consider STRIDE's collection efforts. More information about the convoy can be found at www.flahorse.com and on their bulletin board/forum.

Katrina Horse Rescue Efforts Underway by STRIDE

A horse rescue convoy is being assembled by STRIDE members and others to take horse supplies into the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. On Wednesday authorities began issuing identification badges, determining a safe route through State highways and securing a safe and secure distribution point for distributing the supplies.

The Alabama Department of Agriculture has assigned STRIDE's relief to go to Mobile County.

Several trucks and trailers are being used to carry hay, feed, halters, lead ropes, vet supplies, drugs and buckets. The group is also seeking cash donations to help with the cost of fuel for the trip.

A drop off point for donations has been set up at "Horsin' Around" on Route 40 just west of I-75. Those wishing to help can also contact Don Orem at 352-585-6114 or by email at [email protected]

Robin, my husband and a friend of his would like to trailer 2000 bales of square hay, is this who they should contact to figure out where to unload it for the rescue effort?

As far as I am aware, this is the contact information for the caravan. There is also a fund being set up for fuel assistance for those wanting to do the hauling. That can be found at: http://www.flahorse.com/forum/read.php?TID=4580. There is also some contact information there for "Ashley" who is helping with this supply caravan.
