How old can you breed a mare for?

Depends on a lot of factors. Are they experienced? How is their health? Are the vet checked as safe? Etc… I do know of people who have bred mares into their late teens or very early 20s.

I had a mare that was a strong producer and had her last foal at 24. She stayed in full "bloom", but I retired her after that as she was starting to move slower and stiffer. The mare will tell you when it is time to stop breeding her....when she seriously loses condition by putting everything she has into milk for her foal.
