What was the standard of the animals??

There were a couple of nice mares on there that I liked. I see I should have been there or at least phoned in. Either the photos were better this year (they were I think) but the horses were nicer overall.

Gee............this sale is on my list for next year for sure!

There were some nice horses and some not so nice horses.

I was lucky enough to bring home a nice mare at a bargain price! :aktion033: Charlotte did too.

The ones that brought the most money were clipped, bathed, groomed and presented like show horses. The ones that brought the least were dirty, hairy and not even brushed out. I don't understand why people don't want to take the time to clean up and clip (at least head and neck) horses going through a sale. Then they are upset when the bidding is poor.

I do think the drought and current hay prices hurt the sale.

Those were both really nice mares, Beth! And the Wardens had them looking like show horses in top condition and well presented. They were bargains in my book!

I hope you get lots more Majestics!! Tell me more about the one in your barn!

Beth, those were two of the high selling mares. They were beautifully groomed and stood up there like in the show ring. Very nice presentation!

I was really really bad! Even had to go home and get my trailer! I bought 68. A lovely mare going CHEAP! Way below what should have been her vlaue. She was unclipped and scruffy, but she's the kind of mare I really like....upright archy neck, laid back shoulder, short back, big hip, leggy for her small size (probably less than 30" once she gets a proper trim. WAY too much heel on the girl!) and a nice small head. Now will have to decide what mare to sell to keep numbers down. ( That's the hard part.....keeping the status quo.

It was definitely a buyer's sale.

I hadn`t even heard of this sale. I guess it is out west or south, maybe? We are from Pa. Does Sweet Dreams Farm have a web site? Is there a web site for the auction? It sounds like they had some real nice horses. This time of year though, I`d prefer they just have a head and neck trim. It has been quite cold here for this time of year. 28* again last night. Nancy, Gene Williams puts on this sale twice a year in Guthrie, OK. Here's the website. High Hopes Auction

Gene has been in the miniature industry since 1980 (one of the first breeders in the country!) and puts on a good sale.

Some of the horses are good; some are not. There are always some real bargains!

I like to see their heads and necks clipped, but this time of year I hate to see a full body clip. Becky and Charlotte, I think you got some nice mares. If I wasn't already full to the limit, you might have had a little more competition on them.

There were some very pretty R only horses that went VERY cheap. I know a lot of people on here say they get just as much for R only as for A registered, but in this part of the country they just won't bring but about half the price. Also, A only will not bring as much as double registered, but much better than R only. Just an observation.

All in all, I had a lot of fun. The High Hopes sale is always one of the high points of my year.

W-o-w! Sure wish I'd known about this sale earlier. Does anyone remember 30? A Buckingham daughter out of a Shah Jehan mare (I LOVE that line) for $400. It's not hard to improve your breeding program with prices like that.

I bought #30, the little Shahs Chardonnay x Manipulators Buckingham filly. She was listed as a bay but, is turning grey just like her dam. She is futurity nominated and I will be showing her next year. I also purhased #20 the Alliance filly. She is very petite and has a great head and hooky neck for such a little thing. I also purchased #15. She is a leggy bay pinto with a long archy neck and refined head.

I can't wait for the 2007 show season to get these girls in the ring.
