Hello,

In Az we bought Bermuda Grass hay for our girls ( large mini and shetland pony). We feed pellets for their alfalfa but, know they can't have a large amount. So anyhow we are in WI now and looks like we may have to move here for a yr. or two due to DH father being ill. We have to take care of the land and farm. Sucks as I LOVE Az. Anyhow we found out that last years growing season sucked for grass hay. We found one person selling hay for horses and we called on it. However we have no clue if this is all grass hay just different types. So I'm asking you all on your opinion and make sure its fully grass hay!

Here is what the guy said it has a mix of:

Birdfoot

Trifoil

Blue Timithy

Now this is 300 pound round bales for $30 each! We will of coarse look through it BEFORE buying to make sure there is NO mold!

SO any input would be wonderful!

Welcome to Wisconsin!

Birdfoot Trefoil is a legume (as is alfalfa) that is slow to get established but once it does it is very hardy.

In Wisconsin you will find mostly alfalfa/timothy mixes for hay. that is what we feed our minis and big horses. We usually get mostly 2nd or 3rd crop hay for the minis as it is not as coarse and they digest it easier.
