Hi there
default_saludando.gif

My friend and me have decided to join some other ontario gals, and we are going to Tulsa this year to spectate. I would love feedback from others about great places to eat...what is fun to see or do while visiting the National show.

Any tips or comments would be interesting to hear!

Which National Show is this?

Whether the show is in KS, OK, TX be prepared for drastic weather changes

It can/does happen most anytime here.

No advice since this is my first year, but its going to be a great time

I plan on visiting with farms and meeting forum members in spare time and of course watching

If you've never been there, bring a light jacket. The arena is known for being a bit chilly. If you like to gamlbe or not, the casino has a great buffet. There is a place(can't remember the name) that is not to far (I'm sure many people have eaten there and can respond). But it has like a 70's or sooner atmosphere. Great food, very reasonable. I think a Greek family own it. Go and have FUN FUN FUN!!!!! dionne

...I still can't BELIEVE I'm going

I'm getting to go this year, not taking any of our horses since we don't show AMHR, but I am hauling for other people. I get to come and just enjoy the show, vendors and atmosphere. And of course see people I haven't seen in a year. Last time we were there, it was in 2005, so it will be interesting to see how everything has changed.

Whether you show or not a must have to go to Nationals is a very very good pair of shoes made for a lot of walking. You will find yourself walking from barn to barn and back to buy something, then to the arena to watch then back to the barns, etc......

Do you show in Ontario now? I just saw you are from Ontario! Who are you heading down with?

A suburb of Tulsa, Jenks, has a really neat aquarium. Last time I went was about 5 years ago. It was really nice. http://www.okaquarium.org/

If you are into museums, there are some nice museums with beautiful gardens, Philbrook and Gilcrease.

About 20 miles outside of Tulsa is Claremore. I heard the Will Rogers museum is neat.

My parents grew up in Tulsa and my sister and her family live there. If you decide to go to the aquarium, look me up, I'd like to go again.

If you go to any of these, depending on the day, I might tag along. I've never been to the museums.

Hi Desiree. Yes I showed at the classics and the MHCO shows. I have a little bay gelding. I am staying with some of the gals we show with and travelling with a friend.

Who are you taking down?

We will be there to cheer you on. Perhaps we will stop by and visit.

There are chain restaurants all over the city but, Tally's Good Food Cafe has great food and isn't too far from the showgrounds. It's a one of a kind place to eat and has a fun atmosphere. Have a great trip!!

We don't seem to get out much once we get there and get into the clipping/bathing/grooming/showing mode, we do go to Talley's to eat and theres always a lot of horse people there.

Bring extra money, lots of great vendors and you can do some shopping if needed!!

Visit the barns, you'll get to see people you haven't seen in a while and meet new ones.

Hope you guys have a great time!!

Lots of great places to eat up around I-44. One of the best, least expensive, always come back with a to-go box, is a place that Pinck43, macy-red carpet and Kayo have metioned--TALLYs. Back in 2004 I ate there almost every day--either breakfast, lunch or dinner. I even got one of their T-Shirts for coming so often. Have gone at least 3 or 4 times each year but last year only made it up once as we did a lot of our meals at the grounds. Had to go for the Chicken and Dumplins--one of my favorite meals to eat.

Tally has a daily lunch special and it is great--love to go I believe it is on Wednesday for their Chicken and Dumplins--YUMMMMMM. Their chicken fried steaks are great also.

Nice thing about TALLY is it is just a couple of blocks north of the fair grounds.

Devon, Our flight was really inexpensive ( I think). We are flying out of Buffalo..... 375.00 taxes in. I think thats great considering gas prices. Our room is also reasonable I think. I am sure the cost would be much different if I were showing.

So are the vendors reasonable and are there lots of them....? I sure hope so.

I really appreciate the tips. We will be eating out everyday so this helps.

Ohhhh just wondering.... is there a party atmosphere in the evenings?

Not an expert-- but I did learn some things at last year's show (my first).

Walk the barns a lot and don't be afraid to talk to people.

You do walk a lot. I got a scooter and it was awesome.

The arena is cold and the barns can be hot. Sweat and shiver. Sweat and shiver.

The arena isn't bad lighting for taking pictures but be sure to test some before you want that one special picture.

Shopping money is good. :)

Talk to people.

If you are bringing horses, print a picture of him/her and post it outside the stall. It was hard to see how nice the horses were as they were standing in their stalls because you're looking down on them.
