I cannot wait to work with my new colt when he gets here. I am going to teach him patience and setting up properly and such, but I was wondering how you get a good expression (ears forward)? Do you bait them? What if they don't respond to the treat?

Also, are you allowed to bait the horses in the show ring such as AMHR rated shows?

Thank you!

Yes, you are allowed to bait in the regular halter classes. Not for showmanship or for performance, though.

The trick is to find more than one treat he likes and switch around so he doesn't get bored with the same one all the time.

When he gets here he will be about 4 or 5 months old (depending on when she weans him)

And I will be showing him in yearling classes / junior stallion classes next year
