I am sending in hair on my new stallion. I already know for sure that he is homozygous for tobiano, but I want to check to see if he is homozygous for black also.

Which do I check off? Red factor? Agouti? I am so bad at this. Thanks for your help.

Robin

ps. There is no check off for sabino.... I thought there was a test for it ?

Hi Robin, yes to test for black, you test for red factor. No need to test for agouti if you are positive he's black. A black horse carrying agouti will be bay barring any other dilute genes. There is a test for the Sb1 sabino gene available. Depending on the lab you are using, they should be able to test for that too.

Thanks Becky!

Now, if he is homozygous for black, how will the red factor read?
