What exactly is Futurity? I know that you get awarded it at a show, but what is it?

Is it required to do well with a horse?

Thanks, as much info as possible is great.

The National Futurity is when you nominate a mare and stallion when you do a breeding. Then when the foal is born you have to pay a fee, you renominate the foal each year in order to show it at the national show for that class for example futurity colts and geldings of current year, yearling , two and three year olds. You continue to pay a sustaining fee to keep the horse in for the three years. If you place in the top 5 you get money back if there is 20 horses or less. If you place top 10 in a bigger class they pay you down to 10th place. We got 106. dollars for 9th with sweet tart out of 42 and we got 460 for 3rd with Carbon. The 3 year old year you compete in driving as well and that is the end.

Okay, so if the mare and stallion was not nominated, then that means that the foal cannot go to nationals?

no it just means it cant go in the futurity class. That is only a part of nationals. there are youth and amateur and open classes too.
