Good Morning,

If your new horse is in the AMHR Futurity, it means that the prior owners nominated that horse by March 1st of this year to keep it in the Futurity. At the AMHR Nationals you'll pay a class fee to enter the appropriate age division weanling, yearling or two year old for halter. You compete against all of those horses within that division. I believe the payout is to 6th place and the amount of the payout depends on the number of horses competing.

You will need to sustain your horse for next year by March 1st (forms are on line and will be printed in the Journal) in order to stay in the Futurity. By the time that horse is three years old it will compete in the driving part of the Futurity.

The Futurity program is to promote those breeding programs. You can go back and pull your past Journals and it will list those winners and the payouts they received.

If your horse is double register (ASPC/AMHR) then very likely it's also in the Shetland Futurity, but just like the AMHR they have to be sustained to stay in.

Hope this helps.

Karen
