Frequent Urination ?

Is that a symptom of anything that comes to mind?

Still trying to figure out what is going on with Image - he is acting like he has a belly ache.... seems fine when hes standing but when he lays down he wants to roll or kick his belly yet.

But Ive noticed he pees little and very often..... a sign of anything?

My mare had a kidney stone which is rare in babies and yearlings, could be that best check it out. We thought she was in heat to begin with it. 2200 bucks later and she is as good as new!

I have been following every word of your threads and have wondered since one of your early posts if Image might have an ulcer that is bothering him sometimes the pain from an ulcer will eventually cause a colic Several things you have said made me think of it. 1. Interest in water instead of moms milk, 2. On his back in pain ulcers often cause a horse to roll up with feet in the air to get relief 3. Pain seemed to come and go 4. Our vet told us that young horses often shed the lining of their stomachs between 40 days to 3 months and while most have no problem with it some develop ulcers. 5. A stressful situation can also cause a flare up if an animal has ulcers. Anyway am sure your vet checked this out but it was a thought.

I am not sure if this pertains to you, but I thought you said you were giving your colt electrolyte paste? Maybe it wasn't you but people do not understand that to much of that stuff is toxic and it will cause frequent urination. Here is a quick something I pulled up. Sorry........if this was not you disregard.

I'm glad someone finally mentioned the "U" word.

I had one colt here being treated for colic for three freggin days. I was on and off this board like crazy with forum people encourageing me to have the vet treat for an ulcer, but nope, that vet didn't want to hear it. Finally after three days I found a new vet who plopped the colt in the hospital and ran a scope and guess what the heck he had?????Duh. Ulcers.

And before you ask, yes it's treated with a number of meds and usually the horse will come around quickly and repond.

Of course not saying that is what is wrong here, I have no idea, but my horse was belly up too. It's worth looking into.

I wouldnt have mentioned it but our very first foal was treated by one vet for colic and the next day was even worse so ended up getting another vet to come later the 2nd day and foal was diagnosed with ulcers and treated but by that time she had gone without nursing too long and she was coliced and had an impaction so we loaded her up and took her to the clinic for colic surgery but we ended up losing her during the surgery and if the first vet had treated her correctly she wouldnt have developed the colic in the first place or at least thats what the equine specialists told us so I watch foals very closely now for their interest in water instead of mama and for that feet in the air posture. In fact last year one of my mares also had ulcers and she too tried rolling to her back with feet in the air. Just a possible warning sign for me. Ulcer is usually easily treated if discovered before the pain causes a horse to quit eating. I know it probably isnt that with Image but since it hadnt been mentioned and since some of the symptoms fit it was worth a mention anyway. Also sometimes a horse with ulcers will urinate frequently because they will drink alot of water trying to heal themselves. JMO

Hi Nicole! I am so sorry that Image is not feeling well again.

I may be way off base here, but I have been thinking this from your first post about Image. Is Molly and/or Image's sire HYPP positive? I know it is probably a long shot, but the thought crossed my mind. Ulcers also comes to mind like the others have said. Have any Gastroguard?

No clue....... whats that? And how do I know?

Ulcers... My mom and I have thought of that and he just doesnt seem to fit the description for haveing a ulcer.

We are wondering, if any of you recall back when I very first started posting here Molly was haveing any where from weekly to monthly colic. Sometimes it would be a belly ache, other times it would be bad enough for all night walking, several times she needed the vet out to tube her, I went threw a tube of banamine every other month easily since the day I brought her home. I remember asking on here and some one said try source, sure enough that did it not a lick of colic since!

We were wondering is it possible Molly could have some reason she was collicing so much and some how it was passed to him? I started him on Source this morning just to try .... he doesnt want to eat it but well see.

I don't see how it could be HYPP. It is a genetic disease that traces back to the QH Impressive. Image's sire obviously isn't related to Impressive, and I don't believe Molly is, either? I think I've seen her pedigree somewhere. I just don't see how the symptoms are anything like HYPP, anyway. You can do an internet search to see the symptoms of HYPP.

We just recently had our first case of ulcers, and from what I've learned, Image is showing several of the symptoms.

I was going to mention ulcers as well..... Some of the symptoms to ulcers are similar to colic. Also drinking a lot or playing with the water is a sympton too.

Listen for grinding of the teeth as well....

I'm afraid I'm new and haven't seen the past posts on this, but here's a new thought, could it be bladder infection? The frequent urination and pain sounds a lot like bladder or kidney infection to me. L

Ulcers......my mini stallion had a bout and his symptoms were....off feed, drinking water, difficulty urinating, and laying on his back.......we though bladder infection or blockage but it wasn't.....we treated him first with tucoprim just in case...that had helped a bit by day 2 when I realized thanks to this forum that many symptoms were those of an ulcer.......so I started treatment for that as well within 4 days he was back to his ornery old self
