Hi Everyone, I need some help if possible. I have 3 aunts coming over from Japan Sept. 5 and they really want to see Niagara Falls, (along with a whole list of other places, LOL) But since they are all older and are not at all used to road trips, we know we have to stay in Canada at least 2-3 days to make the trip easier on them.

Would anyone please up there, have any good suggestions, phone numbers, etc. of any reasonable places to stay, that I could make reservations? Also is there anything I should know while traveling up to you guys?

I am in Southeastern PA. Maybe someplace else neat to see also on the way to the falls or around the falls? They are really looking forward to their visit over here and will be here 2 months, so we are trying to show off some neat things as much as we can to them, since it is doubtful they will be able to make it back to the US again.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or comments please.

Thanks everyone in advance!

Lisa

:aktion033: Hope you have a great visit with your family!

I live on the east coast, but have lived in Ottawa and been to Toronto, my favorite spot in Toronto was Casa Loma, it is a castle and quite a love story.

Hello, Lisa,

Way back in 1990, my daughter and I drove up to see Niagara Falls. We were the only two who could get away at that time, and I did NOT want to waste the combination of my new truck and a week of vacation. Too, neither of us had ever had what I call a real vacation.

Too, I was hoping to split her up with her current boyfriend, but that didn't work too well. She called him every evening from motels we stayed at, later married and eventually divorced him.

But I digress. It was early evening after we had finally arrived and viewed the falls from above. And they ARE magnificent!

Anyway, we took off for the states to look for a motel. It was getting late in the day, and we needed a room! We drove and drove and drove while day deepened into night. Finally, in sheer desperation, we turned around, drove back, and re-entered Canada. We somehow managed to stop at a convenient traveler's assistant place there and they made some telephone calls and located us a room for the night on the Canadian side. Seems like it was a Motel 6, but that has been 17 years ago, so I am not at all sure. It may have been a Super 8.

I would suggest that you do a little internet research on available motels, etc. before you actually go. Making a reservation would be a wise thing to do, too.

This probably won't help much, but good luck and have a great time!

There's any number of places to see and things to do in and around Niagara Falls. Doing some internet research is a very good suggestion. Be sure to also look up Niagara On The Lake, a small community just minutes from the Falls. They'll likely enjoy all the beautiful gardens and lovely little shops there. You could easily spend 2 - 3 days just around the Falls and still not see everything. Toronto is only about an hour from there, and it's a beautiful city with a gazillion things of its own to see and do. Having had numerous relatives from Hungary coming to visit over the years, I can assure you that your aunts will just be in awe of everything they see on both sides of the border.

Probably the most important thing, though, is to find out what the requirements are for them to cross into Canada. Do they need a visa to visit the U.S.? If so, they may need a separate one to enter Canada. I think you can just google Canada Customs and Immigration to determine the proper paperwork necessary.

Hey,

I live about 2 hours from the falls, but I went down for the weekend with my boyfriend at the time a few months back and go fairly often to visit there as well, we stayed in Niagara on the lake which is a really nice town just a short drive from the actual falls itself. We stayed at the Hilton I belive it was, but there are sooo many nice hotels and motels all over Niagara since its such a tourist area. Other great places to visit all down in the same stretch as the falls, there is a wax musium there, also a "Riplys Belive it or not" musium which is all Guiness World Record stuff in it...and of course, my personal favorite stop is the VERY fancy Fallsveiw Casino....there is also the Casino Niagara right there as well. Many difforent places to stop and shop and site seeing like the "Maid of the mist" which is a boat tour that goes right down into the falls from what I understand although I have never personly taken it. Like Sunny said, search on the internet and you will find lots of stuff to do down here as well. I hope you enjoy your trip here

You could also stay on the New York side too if that makes it easier because of passports, etc...

I've heard there is more to do on the Canada side. On the New York side there is a casino and many restaraunts, etc...I've only been once and we only went for the day so really didn't have much time to do anything anyhow other than see the falls and eat.

Hi- You will enjoy your visit.- To make it easier on your aunts- look for the people mover buses- they are low buses that people use to get from atraction to atraction- I believe they will take you past the whirl pool- the floral clock, botanical gardens- the butterfly conservatory, the falls etc ( the Niagara Parks department really has some wonderful gardens on the go this time of year- very pretty). Look for coupons at your hotel- they will have discounts to many of the attractions, there is also a fireworks light show over the falls- every couple of days. Here is a pretty good website. http://www.niagaraparks.com/

Have fun! :bgrin

And if your into Pink Floyd- justanothercowgirls hubbys band has an awesome show in the falls too http://www.pinkfloydniagara.com

Thanks everyone, for all the great suggestions and comments and thank you also Judy, I never gave thought to the Visa thing for them. Yes they do have one for coming to the USA, so I better get on it & definitely get that checked out, LOL. That would really stink to get all the way up to the border & then not be able to take them to the falls, which is where they really to see.

I'll check everything out everyone & again THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

The aviary is awesome (I think it's called Birds of Paradise) and is right by the Falls. The Butterfly Conservatory is great too.
