Everyone knows that miniature is better. There are mini cupcakes, mini gingerbread houses, mini champagnes—the list goes on. Bite-size versions of our favorite food and drink are not alone though; this love proclamation of all things tiny holds true with animals, too.

And so we say just two words to you: Miniature. Horses. These pint-sized equines are enough to make your voice go up an octave in excitement and wish you were pint-sized once more yourself to enjoy just one more pony ride.

Even if you're already familiar with mini horses, there's a lot more to them than their small size suggests. Here are all the adorable mini horse facts your heart could ever desire.

  • They have to be shorter than 3 feet tall to be classified as mini.
  • Mini horses can live up to one-third longer than average horses.
  • And they eat a LOT less food.
  • They had a place among royalty.
  • Mini horses can be trained as service animals.
  • The smallest known mini horse is Thumbelina, a sorrel brown mare who measures just 17.5 inches tall.
  • Patrick the mini horse has more followers on Instagram than you do.
  • Crunch the mini horse comes with his own wings and mini carriage.

Here's my response to the above as an owner/breeder since 1990.... I don't think the picture is a very flattering representation of TODAY'S Miniature horse. And in regard to the list --
1. Shorter than 3 ft. tall - FALSE. AMHR recognizes up to 38 inches at the last hair of the mane.
2. Life span? FALSE. Top end is approx. 30 yrs. Some PONIES can live into their FORTIES!
3. True....4. True... 5. Eh....CAN be trained, but remember they ARE flight animals....Better as THERAPY animals.
6. Thumbelina was a DWARF.... very obvious.
7. Don't know "Patrick", I would agree since I don't do Instagram. LOL.
8. Don't know "Crunch" either. Is that his picture above? That would be very cute.
