Not sure about this topic but here goes. Entitlements - how do you feel about them?

My personal feeling is we should work hard and do the best we can with our lives and teach our children the same but we also have a responsibility to help those who need a helping hand. Should that be through our tax dollars? That perhaps is an entirely different subject but at the moment, our tax dollars are devoted to entitlements.

The government wastes so much money on entitlements that have nothing to do with people so my philosophy on entitlements is to put people first. I don't have a problem with food stamps, subsidised housing, etc. because I know how hard it is in this economy to live. I don't have a problem with Medicaid because affording medical care is a luxury.

I don't consider Social Security an entitlement because I've paid into it many, many years.

I pay my taxes and I'd rather see my tax dollars going to helping those in need than some of the other things we as a government waste money on.

I'm really open to hearing other people's opinions and thoughts.

If we are speaking to fed gov, in general, I would say no as there is no constitutional mechanism by which our gov may take our money and redistribute it to the "poor" Now I say "our" money because governments, ALL governments do not have their own money. The only money they have is that which has been taken by threat of force, or outright force from us. Keep in mind that the servant is doing this to the master......

One must constantly guard against creeping socialism. Even the most vocal and conservative talk pundits show that they have fallen into this trap. You do not steal from one to give to another, period. There is a better way but it involves a reportedly large group of people simply doing what God told them to do. What you describe are NOT government functions. If others think so please show me chapter and verse.

Well we should probably define "entitlement". If I am forced to pay money in, then am I not "entitled" to receive it back? Again as an Constitutionally unjustifiable tax tax (Theft) MY money is taken and used for all manner of social engineering and truly is not "there". But much worse is that MY money is used and accrues no normal interest as it would in the "market place". This becomes starkly clear when one compares a run o the mill retirement account one might take part in at work to an ss stipend. The difference between the two (and its substantial) is what gov steals from you in the form of a hidden tax.

I pay my taxes and I'd rather see my tax dollars going to helping those in need than some of the other things we as a government waste money on.

I submit fully as well, but only do so for my families welfare. Were you aware that there was a candidate who fully endorsed repealing the 16th and getting rid of the "income" tax and the IRS? NO? I'm not surprised really, he rarely got a chance to explain this on the national stage. Heard the rep. party head hooter yesterday say that there had been a fair debate and all the issue's had been brought to the forefront. Um , no that be a pile of well..... Masterful liar for one so young, but then again issuing statements like this and in a manner that does not allow proper contradiction seems to be the way of things. Dang another movie phrase flies through again. "You can't handle the truth!" And they can't. For if they could they would not behave in this manner and would welcome all points of view.

But then that would not be good for the agenda and the singular direction "they" want to take the country. "Their" definition of leadership has become fatally flawed and is wholly incomparable with our Constitution and republican form of government. The best and most powerful position of leadership is in selfless service. And that critter is mighty rare.

After reading the rep. parties demands of all speakers at the convention, it became clear that the "nominee" had been chosen LONG ago

and that the "convention" is a waste of time and money. It is ALL sophistry. It is however a necessary distraction in that helps keep the programed "faithful" on board and unaware of their manipulation. And s'long as the slaves are happy and turning on any voice of reason, the destruction continues....

I'm really open to hearing other people's opinions and thoughts.
Well there ya have it and thank you. Hope you have a great day (no really)

BB, Loved reading your response and GO RON PAUL!!! I'm a liberal libertarian I think but as long as there are taxes, I'd rather see them go to help people and pay for necessities than just plain old waste. Thanks so much for your answer. Gave me lots to ponder on this rainy Vermont day.

I LOVE social security! You have to pay into it even though they say it will run out in 22 years and you're "not guaranteed to get any". Talk about highway robbery and we all keep on paying (not that you have a choice) without questioning. I also, given how much you pay in, can't imagine anyone not being able to do a better job with that retirement investment than the government is doing.

We get SS. We don't need it as income because we have other income so instead of waiting til later in life to get the maximum amount we signed up the instant we could. You betcha we're taking out every penny
