hello,

our black pinto mare who is homozygous for tobiano had a nice bay pinto filly.

My question is do you think she could be homozgyous for tobiano gene.Should we test her or not.If we test her what hairs do we try to pull the mane or tail. When we send in the olders ones we pull the mane hairs.

Her sire is bay pinto

her dam is black pinto

here are photos.

She has one blue eye and one brown eye

Both of her parents have two blue eyes.

So what all shoudl I test her for?

thanks

With her dam being homozygous, you have 75% chance she is!!!! I would test!

Which hairs do you all pull for the foals?

The manes are so fine, so do you pull mane hair or tail hairs?

You can pull from either source, just as long as you get the roots or "bulbs" of the hair.

Your filly could be homozygous for tobiano (as long as both parents carry tobiano) as well as black. I pull the tail hairs on babies.
