He was pitch black when he was born but the past couple days the black on his legs and around his flanks has gotten a silvery look to it.. Is it just his baby fuzz or do you think he may have the silver gene? Many on here have said that his dam looks like a silver black varnish pintaloosa.. His sire is a black varnish near leopard.. The lil guy doesn't have any apparent appaloosa traits, no striping on feet, no mottling..

You can see in this pic that the black in his flank and "armpit" area is lighter than the rest of his black..

I don't know about the silver gene but my 2 year old black pinto colt looks the same. He is pitch black but a grey when I shave him.

No, I dont think hes silver. Probally just baby fuzz.

Thanks! This is only our second black baby born here, first was our black snowcap colt last year but he got the varnish gene from sire/dam so I knew he would 'fade'..
 
What a sweetie! The silver gene doesn't seem obvious to me either.......
