Lowrise whether it screams socialism or not why in God's name would you want the Federal Gov't handling your 401k savings? Lets look at Social Security, that fund will be belly up soon enough. And lets not forget the bang on job the Gov't does with handling other financial issues.

Yeah....just genius.

I am sure that there are People that don't have a 401K. So having said that, they can't understand the importance of the people that do. I am very concerned about this as we have a lot to loose. I don't think its right for them to even consider touching our 401K. Thats not right at all.

No kidding! For many of my clients, their 401(k)'s (or the retirement plans I've rolled them into) are a very significant part of their financial security. This is something people work their entire careers to accumulate. From my perspective, anyone who doesn't understand that a retirement account is very important to those who have them (and what it took to accumulate one -- money out of their pay checks) is probably someone waiting on Uncle Sam to fund their retirement.

I for one am sooooo sick of the term "fear-mongering"!!!! Why is that anytime a question is asked or an issue is brought up it's the "F-M" word???

But of course that does not stop the fearmongering machine from grinding into gear once again.... and spreading gloom and doom....
I think the below is fear mongering - Isn't this the worse of the doom & gloom ?

I won't post it all here least I get scolded for repeating something or changing the subject.

(Threads can be found posted on 22 October started by me for those that want to read that disussion.

"Biden predicts international crisis within first 6 months" and "Colin Powell's disturbing comments".)

Joe Biden -

"Remember I said it standing here, Biden continued. "Watch, we're going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy..."I promise you it will occur. "I promise you, you all are going to be sitting here a year from now going, 'Oh my God,
"this guy" is referencing Obama

Colin Powell -

There is going to be a crisis come along on the 21st, 22nd January that we don't even know about right now and so I think the president has to do is start using the power of the oval office and the power of his personality"

I actually emailed Fox twice and asked them to get some more information about those back to back comments about crisis. I was disappointed that they evidently didn't pick up on it - at least if they did I didn't see it. Now that's what I'd call fear-mongering and gloom and doom. But, hey, what do I know.

Perhaps because the so called "issue" being brought up is not a FACTUAL issue at all!!!! Do you not think that the republican party would have brought this to the forefront during their campaign and gone after Obama about this? Do you truly believe every bloggers input on the web to be factual and true????? I swear to God if I hear one more time "I am so scared, yada yada yada" I am going to

Well, I did not invent that fearmongering term - but feel free to single out my quotes about it.

It is only called fearmongering when you or your guy are not doing it I guess... although I have no "guy". And I have yet to post anything that comes close to saying - if So-and-So is elected all these terrible things are going to happen and we need to be afraid...

Fearmongering is getting people upset about things that may not even happen - this 401K proposal is just that - a proposal by a few Dems - and yet people are talking about it as if it is part of Obama's platform and a sure thing.

And yes - it is a bit of fearmongering to point out the possibility of some kind of terrorist activity after the election - but that has been noted for many months now... not just by Powell and Biden (who tends to put his foot in his mouth rather easily). There have been many concerns expressed in official circles that whatever new administration takes office will be tested by some sort of incident. Whoever is elected may face that challenge... and I think they will be prepared.

SS is having problems not from its own use, but because Presidents have been using its money to pay for other things for YEARS. So when the money isnt there, its because they have used it. I think Clinton was the worst 'borrower' of that fund. I think it sad that when the Pres etc talks about SS shortfalls, they dont state why, but give the idea that its just because SS is overused or mishandled.
