A couple of weeks ago Diva was diagnosed with a resperatory infection so she was on shots for 3 days, but her attitude was down but her appetite was back. Took her to the vet again and she was vet checked cleared but kept her on the shots for a couple more days to get her energy back. Last week she was back to normal although her energy still didn't seem right to me but wasn't in worry mode.

Well tonight during feeding time I noticed she just wasn't eating very well and and energy was down again! I also noticed she was on the thin side so I checked her and sure enough she is. Please don't tell me that she is sick again

.

Could there be something more than just an resperatory infection? Im also worried that her energy is so low, lower than normal for a foal when she is well.

I am asking for opinions not medical advice! We will be calling the vet tomorrow, but want to get some sort of an idea what we are dealing with!

Well..we give Probios after antibiotics..and Love red cell..might wanna give it a try!

I just wanted to say I hope she has a speedy recovery and soon. I know how much you love her and how hard you work with your horses.

Well I would imagine, sure, anythings possible. I just don't have a clue.

It might be good if you can offer her some Gatorade and keep your bedding clean and maybe you can disinfect the stall and buckets. I don't know if that will make any difference but it might help a little bit with whatever bug she has. I'm with you, I would have the vet back out there for sure. Sorry I am not much help here.

IF she were my baby and on antibiotics.....and IF my baby were acting frumpy after said antibiotics, I would see if I couldnt get some probios into my baby and maybe even some over the counter Zantac.....since I would be suspecting that my baby was having tummy troubles from her antibiotics. I have a colt on antibiotics now for a wound and Im giving him yogurt with his meds. But thats just what I would do if she were my baby. Not a vet, never have been one, just an experienced old lady!

I had one two years ago, same type infection, on antibiotics and she later was diagnosed with ulcers, so we put her on tagament for 7 days, as advised by our vet and never had any problems again. No horse here gets medicine without tagament to follow! As advised by my vet for my horses.

Good luck!!!!

Jumping on the "Not a vet, never have been but have been in the horse industry to many years to count" bandwagon.... (

) I, too, would look towards perhaps a stress ulcer? I KNOW how hard Tulsa can be on weanlings.... Tagamet has worked well for me in the past...

I hope the little darling is better soon, Jaime...

As with Lyn's story

if my horsie had had some Naxcel for 5 days or so, the tummy may be involved, that is one reason I keep a tube of probios handy. Any change seems to upset some and not phase others. Perhaps ask the vet about some tagamet ar something comperable.

Not a vet, not giving medical advice, but agreed - you may want to talk to your vet about possible ulcers and trying rantadine (Zantac) or something similar to see if that helps. Wishing you the best!

Not a vet either, but a little syringe of Pepto Bismal works too. How are the stools? Any chance you have a worm hatch with unfortuante timeing? Linda

hope she gets feeling better real soon. If you think she might be getting dehydrated there is a produce available at your local feed store or farm supply store called Bounch Back. It comes in a small dose all the way up to a bigger bag. It is added to water to help hydrate all sorts of animals. I used it on the two new fillies I got from the Lolli Bros sale a couple of weeks ago and I think it helped.

JMO...no medical advice given.
