I have a perlino stud colt that I pulled hair on and sent off to the lab for testing. This is what the results are...

Red-Factor Result:

E/e - Both black and red factors detected. Either E or e transmitted to offspring. Basic color is black, bay or brown in the absence of other modifying genes.

Agouti Result:

A/a - Black pigment distributed in points pattern. Basic color is bay or brown in the absence of other modifying genes.

..

I am not 100% sure what this means - can you genetics experts explain these results to me. Thanks so much!!!!

He has one red gene one black gene, and one copy of agouti. He can sire both red and black based foals and will NOT always pass on the agouti modifier.

Since he's a perlino it also means he can produce Smoky Blacks as well as Buckskins and Palominos.
