color question

I clipped up my fill this weekend. Last suimmer she was a bay pinto. now she has lightened up ALOT. her mother is a bay pint and father is black is it possible for her to go silver. can anyone tell me what the exact definition of silver is. she is also getting quite a few white hairs in her bat patches.

If either the bay or black parent carried silver, it would show up on them. What silver dilution does on those colored horses is to give a flaxen mane and tail, and on the black one, turn the body color lighter (silver on black makes silver dapple). Seeing the lighter body color when you clip your horse is just because horses can look different when clipped until their color comes back in (probably a couple weeks this time of year). It will make some "regular" bay horses look almost buckskin
